What is the Greater Maryhill Foodbank?
Greater Maryhill’s Foodbank is an independent community project founded by a group of concerned organisations and individuals in and around the area of Maryhill. The foodbank came into being in response to very real needs arising from the current economic climate. We look to increase the number of organisations and individuals willing to donate even a little bit of their time, talent, or resources.
The Greater Maryhill Foodbank provides households (individuals or families) in crisis situations with approximately 3 days worth of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food. Partner agencies identify households needing food & refer them to the foodbank by giving out a voucher. The voucher enables that household member to enter the foodbank.

The Greater Maryhill Foodbank will also signpost clients to further help available through our partner organisations.

How does it work?
• Food, money & other resources are donated by organisations, local people, companies & supermarkets.
• Volunteers sort donated food & assemble food transport crates
• Household in need is identified by partner agency
• Volunteers invite clients to take an item out of each box, thus allowing people to choose that which they can eat. All food is given freely without agenda or condition.

How can I donate food?
Add a single extra item to your basket at the supermarket to give to the foodbank. It may make very little difference to you but could transform a neighbour’s life. You may bring your donation to Maryhill Parish Church, 1990 Maryhill Rd. or contact a partner listed above. Here are some suggestions of non-perishables:

• Tins: Tuna, Meat, Soup, Vegetables, Fruit, Baked Beans, Meat Pie, Rice Pudding, Spaghetti
• Jars: Jam, Jelly, Pasta Sauce, Curry Sauce, Sandwich Spread, Baby Food
• Packets: Pasta, Rice, Sugar, Cereal, Oatmeal, Biscuits, Noodles
• Beverages: Tea, Coffee, Long Life Milk, Fruit Juice, Bottled Juice

We are also happy to accept such household items as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dish washing liquid, shampoo, toilet paper, nappies, etc.
