TRAIN SERVICES – URGENT POST

It would appear that, due to the closure of the Forth Road Bridge,  the service between Anniesland to Glasgow Queen Street, via Maryhill is being reduced to “one per hour.”  This of course includes services from Kelvindale station. The official notice is shown below.  One can only assume that stock and drivers are being switched to add extra services on the Edinburgh side to cover the problem.   At this point in time we cannot clarify what “This is expected to continue until end of service” actually means – if this is just for today or if it is to last for the whole period of the Bridge closure.

FRIENDS OF THE RIVER KELVIN

pins03206This is to let you know about a Friends of the River Kelvin event which might interest you.

We’re holding a “Wee Winter Warmer ” in the Ha’Penny Bridge House down by the river between 11am and 3pm on Sunday 13th December.

It will be a friendly and informal event, with a little live music, some refreshments, but most importantly the opportunity to catch up with members of the FORK committee and our collaborators, to celebrate the river, hear what we’ve been doing and plans for the future, and for us to hear ideas from others who share our passion for our the river and its surroundings.

We’d be delighted if you could join us at any point during the event.

should parking on pavements be illegal?

The Scottish Parliament is looking for your opinions about double parking, parking at dropped kerbs, and parking on pavements.

The Footway Parking and Double Parking (Scotland) Bill aims to make it illegal to park on pavements, or to park at dropped kerbs or double-park. You can add your opinion to the debate by writing to the Local Government and Regeneration committee, or simply by filling in a survey online.

All of the details are here. Submissions close on 30 October at 5pm.

rail and subway closures in 2016

At this week’s KCC meeting ScotRail gave us a very comprehensive report on what’s happening during the closure of Queen Street station next year. The high level station will be closed between 20 March & 8 August. Many main line trains will be diverted via the new loop to Anniesland to come into Queen Street low level, passing through Kelvindale without stopping, but the most likely outcome for Kelvindale station users is that we’ll still have at least an hourly service from the station during this period when Queen Street is closed.

The good news is that we get the investment of the new bit of track at Anniesland for nothing, and that it will be suitable for use by electric trains. However, there’s no chance of our line being electrified until at least 2019, when the next 5-year plan for rail infrastructure investment kicks off.

Meanwhile, the subway will also be closed for four weeks, from the beginning of the school summer holiday. So getting around Glasgow in July might be a bit of an adventure.
