Glasgow’s Winter Maintenance Plan for 2015-16 is now published and available here (link to GCC website), and here (PDF). There’s an impressive collection of contact phone numbers on Page 17, but the main point of contact for enquiries should be RALF on 0800 373635 or 0141 287 1062.

railway line meeting

Network Rail are holding a drop-in meeting in Kelvindale next Tuesday 11 August between 4-7pm at Kelvindale Bowling Club, 91a Baronald Drive. This is to give details of the disruption to the Queen Street – Anniesland line during electrification works at Queen Street, which are due to start this weekend.

another rail update

Ken Windsor was at the Network Rail drop in meeting on the 14th, and reports back:

I have the new timetables, the print of which is far too small to scan in and send.  I will put them up on the noticeboard today.

In brief, from Sunday August 9th until Sunday 18th October the train will be replaced by a bus service. However, from Monday 19th October through to Friday 6th November we will also have our weekday evening services replaced by buses from 19.56 each evening.

Patricia Ferguson MSP is pushing for an extra meeting to take place in Kelvindale, as decisions are currently being made about what will replace our line during the 20 weeks of the EGIP engineering works next year:

The question is whether we think that people on ‘our’ line would use a service which went from Ashfield to Queen Street with a change of trains at Anniesland or whether there needs to be a replacement bus service.  My own feeling is that the closer to Anniesland your journey begins the more likely it is that you would want to use the train but for people at Ashfield and the stations closest to Queen Street a bus becomes more viable.

Expect more on this soon!

more rail replacement buses, and a meeting

Scotrail may now have persuaded drivers to work on a Sunday, but there are more Sunday closures on the Kelvindale line coming anyway, as a result of major engineering works. There will be buses running instead on Sundays from 8 August until 9 November, and also on Saturday 8 November.

There is a public drop-in meeting about this at Knightswood Community Centre, Alderman Road G13 3DD on Tuesday (14th July), 4-7pm.

rail replacement buses!

The Sunday service to Kelvindale station is being replaced by a bus due to a shortage of drivers. Given the trouble we have hanging on to a bus service this is ironic, isn’t it?

Details on the Scotrail website here.

more on railway closures

As if the Winchburgh tunnel isn’t enough, the high level of Queen Street station will be closed from 20 March to 8 August next year, with knock-on effects for our line to Kelvindale station. Expect to hear more about this from our MSP Patricia Ferguson in the coming months … and keep an eye on developments at this Facebook page.

two new cycling strategies!

Are cycling strategies like buses (other than the no.11)? You wait for ages, and then two come along at once …

Anyway, Glasgow’s Strategic Plan for Cycling is now published and the city council is looking for your views and opinions. It’s all here.

The other one is the new ScotRail Cycling Innovation Plan (PDF) from new franchise holder Abellio, which looks quite promising, including another 50 bike parking spaces at Partick.
